I have been lucky to experience two very different careers in my life.
Over the years, I have been able to combine my passion for circus art and financial services.
Currently, I am running two businesses, Bravo Circus Studio, where I teach circus classes for kids and provide entertainment programs; and Maria Chekmareva Insurance, where I provide a variety of insurance solutions as an independent insurance broker.
How did I get here?
When I became a professional circus artist, I was wondering how I could build my financial independence and manage my money, help my parents, and have a plan in case I injured myself.
These questions inspired me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the Moscow Financial University while carrying on with the circus training and performances around the world.
During my circus career, I fell in love with Canada, the multicultural country where everyone has the opportunity to learn, develop and apply their skills in many different ways.
Upon my move to Canada, I have continued my studies and successfully graduated with a Financial Services Diploma from SAIT and completed the Investment Funds course (CSI) and Life License Qualification Program (LLQP is a licensing regime for life insurance sales).
During the two-year program, I completed multiple case studies analyzing the financial assets of different families in the search for the best solutions. Besides, I was on the team for the management project and received the “Developing Winning Competitive Strategies” Student Award.

When I opened the Bravo Circus Studio in Calgary, I was able to combine my passion for circus art and finance. I have been successfully managing the company’s finances, tax reports as well as customers’ feedback and much more, drawing on my knowledge of the financial industry obtained during my college and university years.
Being an instructor has taught me to be attentive to my client’s needs, developing long-lasting relationships with them in order to better evaluate their previous experience to achieve new goals.
